“Of the mushroom” said the Caterpillar

I listened to artist Kim Walker, a RISD student, speak yesterday about her art project Simulacra.  The piece is actually a mushroom sculpture that is infused into the natural enviornment.  Her intention is to attract the viewer to discover unfound art in everyday life.   Simulacra is fun and inviting, captivating the viewer and drawing them in.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense.  Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t.  And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be.  And what it wouldn’t be, it would,  You see?”

And something about the artist herself reminded me of Alice and Wonderland and her magical mushrooms…..  Could it be???

“One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter” said the Caterpillar.

“One side of WHAT?  The other side of WHAT” thought Alice to herself.

Of the mushroom” said the caterpillar, just as if she said it aloud; and in another moment he was out of sight. ~

”Begin at the beginning,’ the King said gravely, ‘and go on till you come to the end: then stop.’– Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland)

Tiny Tim once sang about tip toes through the tulips not the mushrooms!

Hmm… What is it about mushrooms??
Great pics-love the colors-very surprising to see them in contrast to the “drab” bark on the trees and leaves.
